Choi Jinoon uses digital data to produce images. As an artist who majored in painting, he is very much interested in colors and forms. He experiments with errors that arise when colors and forms migrate between the digital space and reality, or he tests the process of changes from which excess data is produced. For example, he explores how color data based on the RGB color scheme develops into actual paint colors as it combines with the CMYK color algorithm. Choi says, “I capture how specific values and promised definitions change at fundamental levels, depending on the shifting systems and circumstances.” He demonstrates this in his work by presenting the clash between algorithm and digitally produced images or painterly language. In the era of new media, Choi Jinoon’s image reproduction conveys the relationship between the real and the virtual.
