Kim Sungbaek is a college student studying graphics used in programming, game development and digital art. He can create graphic imagery in a variety of forms, so Kim offers an artistic perspective in virtual and digital spaces, using his computer graphics skills. The results of such approach are Satellite, an interactive installation about memory, Empty Box, a work based on questions about fear, and Decision, a VR project that gives audience a virtual experience of a soldier encountering a dying enemy in the middle of a war. Kim is drawn to exploring innate natures of human, and he is currently formulating and conducting experiments on whether human instincts can function in virtual spaces in the same ways they do in reality. For the current project in progress, Kim Sungbaek is planning his second experiment on morals. Instead of conducting the experiment in a setting to simply review one’s moral behavior, the artist takes a sociological approach in a virtual environment where the border between the virtual setting and reality becomes unclear.
