Installation artists Mo Kim and Sungyoon Jung constructed a shelter, designed to block out noise and radio waves. Jung worked on the exterior while Kim designed a single-person cubicle inside.
The duo’s shelter is unlike typical shelters used in crises; it focuses solely on what's happening inside rather than outside. At the end of the walk into Kim and Jung’s construction that appears bright and shiny from outside, visitors reach the cubicle where radio wave and sound are cut off. In this cubicle filled with just the right amount of lighting and a comfortable sofa, visitors experience complete disconnection from the outside world. By transforming isolation into a new understanding of space, this project leads people to immerse themselves in the given time and surrounding. Such setting delivers a sense of safety and stability, while also stimulating the exact opposite—the desire to escape from the confined space.
