Designer and visual artist Sunghyeop Seo explores the human cognitive system, which creates image using abstract information.
The project is an installation of a virtual city made up of interactive tiles that generate sound from movement. Using sounds collected from around the city, the audience is able to enjoy an imaginary city of their own. Just like Kublai Khan was able to vicariously experience the cities he had never been to through the stories of Marco Polo in Italo Calvino’s fiction Invisible Cities, the project provides the opportunity to create one’s own city from each person’s own memories and perspectives. As such, the project presents the concept that understanding of cities are based on each person’s sensory experience rather than objective standards.
