Visual artist Changyeob (C.Y.) Ok gives invisible natural phenomena and human emotions a visual representation with technology.
With a background in technology, the artist uses technology as a tool for artistic thinking and a means to express art. The project is inspired by the electro-wetting technology which modifies wetting properties like water vapors using electricity. On the Edge of Water is an audiovisual representation of two contrasting emotions told with a personal narrative. Through technological means, the project artistically portrays both the fear of drowning rooted in the artist’s childhood experience and its contrasting emotion of comfort, which comes from when he learned to swim. Ok’s use of technology and his personal narrative drive visitors into a particular aesthetic experience.
