Installation artist Sungyoon Jung showcases a sculpture and installation that explore the human identity and human relationships using a mechanical device in repeated motions.
The machine is placed inside a transparent cube running in repeated motions. It raises the question of trust and distrust between the material and mind, and the mind and consciousness. The dots in motion come together as lines, and there seems to be order within the chaotic oscillation. The machine appears as though it is showing everything there is to it, but it is not completely exposed. Even though the audience is merely seeing the machine’s exterior, they are tricked into thinking that they are actually seeing the inside of the machine because of the transparent cube. Solaris explores human’s desire and intuition toward trust and distrust through the paradox of the transparent cube.
