Interdisciplinary artist and designer Eun Young Park focuses on ‘soft robotics’ that defies traditional robotic forms and qualities. This project highlights the potential of soft technologies that soft robotics presents and the emotional revitalization that slow technology enables.
Breathing Light, study immerses into aspects of soft robots that diverge from the grains of traditional robotics. Focusing on soft and delicate movements, powered by compressed air, and its resemblance to the fun and familiar feelings of nature, Park has been researching and experimenting with an array of materials and related technologies for the past year. In this project, Park centers on craft techniques, such as origami and pleating, as an extension of her research.
Designing soft and slow robots, Park challenges technologies obsessed with speed and efficiency. She encourages the viewers to reevaluate their assumptions and emotions through her gentle interruption of the traditional images of robotics, machines and technology.
