Today’s uniform cities fail to reflect the reality of contemporary life. Designer Sunghyeop Seo and architect Donghan Shin attempt to address this limitation in their own creative way.
CITY SKIN presents a new look of the city through the combination of Seo’s tile pieces and Shin’s fence. Their work is the result of reconstructing modern urban identity discovered through the study on modern cities’ formation and their appearances. Seo presents tile fragments with patterns found in building skins from a particular period, used primarily to decorate houses in underdeveloped neighborhoods. Shin’s fence is made with a 3D fabrication method that utilizes the robotic arm developed by BAT, a creative group that Shin is a member of. His fence is not only free in form but also can purify air and grow plants.
